2015 Year-in-Review Podcast

On the inaugural Fawkes Year-in-Review podcast, Morgan, Alex, and Matt discuss some of the major events that happened in 2015. Topics include Miley Cyrus (1:25), the Taylor Swift-Nicki Minaj Twitter Beef (10:16), famous covers of T-Swift’s 1989 (19:30), Adele’s 25 (30:40), Pop Music today (38:50), music we loved in 2015 (49:38), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (56:58) and more! Sorry for the length, we didn’t realize how much we love to hear ourselves talk.

Some other notes and corrections…

Matt incorrectly stated that Adele was having trouble writing/recording tracks until she brought in a songwriter from Taylor Swift’s recording team. In reality, Adele struggled until she heard Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” while at lunch and was informed the song was written by Max Martin. Adele then listened to other tracks written by Martin, which led to the track  “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” now on the album 25. She explains all this in a really fantastic interview by i-D where Adele drops more F-bombs than Alex and Matt, which can be found here.

Matt incorrectly called Taylor Swift’s 2014 album “1985” while in reality the album’s title is 1989.

“Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” actually won “Video of the Year” at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards but lost the “Best Female Video” award to Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me.”

The Father John Misty article that Morgan mentioned around the 22:28 mark can be found here.

You can find the video of Brian Fallon playing “Low Love” that Matt mentioned here.
