Between writing that USA’s surprise-hit thriller from last summer was my favorite show of 2015 and raving about it on countless podcasts, I have made it no secret that I am a huge fan of the show Mr. Robot. Well, show-runner Sam Esmail showed us again on Sunday night why even after just one season, the show is the best one in the business.
The second season of Mr. Robot, starring Rami Malek, Christian Slater, Portia Doubleday and Carlie Chaikin, was slated for its two-hour premiere Wednesday beginning at 10 P.M. Well, fans paying attention to twitter on Sunday night around 8:30 might have been lucky enough to catch the first part of the premier, as the show “leaked” the first hour on their Twitter feed at 8:30. But you had to act fast to catch it, as it was promptly taken down at 10:20.
The marketing strategy is perfectly on brand. The show, which consistently captured the zeitgeist through its first season, once again brings the F-society movement of Mr. Robot out of the screen and into daily life and culture.
Thankfully, I was able to catch the surprise first hour of the premier. I won’t spoil anything here except to say that everything I loved from the first season is here again- so mainly Sam Esmail’s exceptional directing and Rami Malek’s virtuoso performance. Hopefully, you were able to catch it, too, but if not be sure to tune in Wednesday night at 10PM. I know I will.
